The iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus are set to hit our shores really soon. Want it to hit your home even faster? Then consider pre-ordering it, since many major telcos and 11street have officially opened pre-orders as of this very morning!
New iPhones are always more expensive than their predecessors, so it probably isn’t that much of a surprise that, when coupled with the weaker ringgit, the price of these newest iPhones are higher than the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. On the (sort of) bright side, they come with a new minimum storage size of 64GB now, double the previous minimum of 32GB.
The cheapest and smallest-storage iPhone 8 64GB officially retails at RM3,649, with the 256GB version going for RM4,399. In comparison, the most affordable iPhone 7 retailed at RM3,199 last year, which translates into a RM450 increase in price.
The iPhone 8 Plus 64GB hits the shelves at RM4,149, while the 256GB version almost reaches the 5-mark with its RM4,899 price tag. The iPhone 7 Plus retailed at RM3,799, which translates into a RM350 increase in price.
Pre-Order with Contract
Want the iPhone 8 or 8 Plus at reduced cost? You can achieve this by purchasing your new iPhone bundled with a contract. All major telcos in Malaysia have opened pre-orders, so have fun shopping between them! Maxis, for example, offers the iPhone 8 64GB for as low as RM1,970 with its MaxisONE plan 188.
Pre-Order without Contract
But what if you want iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus free of any contracts? No problem – simply head over to the official Apple Malaysia or Machines websites if you wish to pre-order online, or head over to Switch stores near you to pre-order in person. Switch stores are available at Gurney Plaza and Queensbay Malls in Penang, Quill City Mall in Kuala Lumpur, and the Spring Mall in Sarawak.
What About the iPhone X?
This year is a special year, so Apple is commemorating it by releasing not one, not two, but three iPhones this year! The iPhone X is pending release later in the year, and it boasts several enhanced specifications over the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. The official retail price of the iPhone 8 has yet to be revealed, but it should be a safe bet to assume that the basic version will retail at a higher price than its 8 or 8 Plus counterparts.
