TIME Internet
Times have never been more exciting for broadband services offered in Malaysia. Just a couple of months ago, Telekom Malaysia has announced their plan with their UniFi Turbo Upgrade Plans that has speeds up to 800Mbps, while Maxis and Celcom had also reduced their prices for their fibre home broadband offers.

Apparently, it also appears that TIME has also finally responded to TM by offering speeds upgrades of their own. You are able to get 1Gbps of Fibre Broadband Plan for less than RM300 per month.

Subsribers on the 100Mbps plans have also claimed to have gotten 500Mbps while those on a 300Mbps reported to have bumped up to about 800Mbps.

Additionally, those on TIME’s highest current 500Mbps plans are also reportedly getting twice the speed of up to 1Gbps.

Here’s how much TIME customers are paying:
100Mbps TIME (RM149/month) -> 500Mbps
300Mbps TIME (RM189/month) -> 800Mbps
500Mbps TIME (RM299/month) -> 1Gbps

Below is Unifi’s Turbo upgrade offering as a comparison:
10Mbps Unifi (RM129/month) -> 100Mbps
30Mbps Unifi (RM179/month) -> 300Mbps
50Mbps Unifi (RM249/month) -> 500Mbps
100Mbps Unifi (RM329/month) -> 800Mbps

At the time of posting, TIME has also yet to make any announcements regarding their upgrades and their website is still showing that their current plans are still the same without any speed upgrades. Perhaps that TIME’s approach is to upgrade all of its current existing customers first before making new faster plans available for new subscribers.

Furthermore, the upgrade exercise should be seamless as TIME Internet runs fully on fibre optic network. Meanwhile, some of the TM Unifi customers are locked into 30 Mbps as they are using copper – based VDSL instead of fibre optic wires for certain high – rise buildings.

With this new speed upgrade, TIME Internet will now have the most affordable 500Mbps broadband plan in the country at only RM149/ month; which is around 100Mbps plans that are currently offered by Maxis and Unifi at RM129/month.

While also having a faster connection speed at a lower price, the one issue that always affect the customers are the coverage. TIME Fibre Broadband is only available to high – density condominiums and apartments and they are not as widely available as Unifi and Maxis. Although TIME has congratulated Unifi for their speed upgrades, they did however acknowledge that they need to stay committed to investing in fibre and increase the coverage whenever possible.

We are certainly hoping that TIME can expand its network of fibre broadband services especially those who are still connected using Streamyx. There are certainly more than  a million customers on Streamyx and only up to 340,000 of them are within Unifi’s Fibre Broadband coverage, making up to around 700,000 new potential customers on TIME can penetrate into to bring the internet connectivity in Malaysia up to speed.
